The school sits right on the historic Via Appia Antica, about 3 km southeast of the Colosseum. The grounds are spacious, with an open-air training area and the gladiator museum on the same property.
The cheapest and at the same time most charming option — if you can bring a little patience.

The 118 is the classic "Via Appia line" and runs directly along the historic stretch of road.

Alternative from the north — useful if you are staying near San Giovanni.
Tip: buy tickets in advance (at a Tabacchi shop, metro vending machines or through the ATAC app). You cannot pay on the bus itself.
From the Colosseum the ride takes about 15 minutes, depending on traffic. From Termini main station, about 20 minutes. Fares are roughly 15 to 22 € depending on time of day — with surcharges in the evening, at weekends and on public holidays.
In Rome, FreeNow and IT Taxi work reliably. Both call official taxis (white cars with a meter). Uber is only available as "Uber Black" — chauffeured cars, noticeably more expensive. The classic option also works: at the taxi rank by the Colosseum (Piazza del Colosseo) several cars are usually waiting.
It is best to book a taxi through the app right after the training — there are no taxis waiting on the Via Appia itself. The trainers are happy to help if needed.
The Via Appia Antica is one of the most beautiful stretches of road in Rome — a stone-paved road from the 4th century BC, lined with pines, tombs and aqueducts. On Sundays it is car-free, which makes it a perfect day trip.
From the Colosseum you can reach the school in 50–60 minutes. Honestly: not for everyone, especially in the heat. But if you like walking, you get a real time travel.
Several rental shops at the entrance to the Via Appia Antica (Porta San Sebastiano) offer bikes from around 10 € a day. E-bikes and even electric tuk-tuks are also available. From the rental shop to the school is about a 15-minute ride.
Recommended
The morning slot, basically a must in summer. Pleasant temperatures, fewer mosquitoes, better availability. The afternoon then stays free for the Colosseum or Forum.
OK in spring/autumn
Very pleasant in spring and autumn. In summer it gets hot — if you cannot go earlier, drink plenty and use sunscreen.
Tough in summer
Afternoon slots are often the hottest part of the day from June to August. If you cannot get the 9 a.m. slot, at least pick the shaded late-afternoon hours from 4 p.m. on.
The Gladiator School combines well with other highlights along the Via Appia.

Catacombs of San Callisto or San Sebastiano
A few hundred metres further south. Two of the best-known early Christian catacombs in Rome, both with guided tours in several languages. Plan 60–90 minutes — do not combine both on the same day, one is enough.
Tomb of Caecilia Metella
A striking round tomb from the 1st century BC, right on the Via Appia. Entry is included in the "Appia Antica" combo ticket, which also covers the Villa of the Quintilii.
Parco degli Acquedotti
A little off the path but underrated: the remains of the Roman aqueducts in an open park. Perfect for the late afternoon — best photo light at low sun. Reachable by Metro A (Giulio Agricola) or taxi.
If both are on your list: Gladiator School first, Colosseum afterwards. Many visitors pass on this exact tip in their reviews — and it makes sense. Once you have tried the movements, weapons and armour yourself, you see the Colosseum with different eyes: not as a big old building, but as the place where exactly what you just did took place.
Timing-wise it fits well: 9 a.m. Gladiator School (2 hr training), back into town (bus + taxi roughly 45 min), lunch break, then the Colosseum in the afternoon (book that slot ahead).
The best time to come. Pleasant temperatures (15–22 °C), little rain, everything green. Morning and afternoon both work.
Hot (30–36 °C, often more). We only recommend the 9 a.m. slot without reservations. Water bottle, sun hat, insect repellent — all three. Reviews confirm: without repellent it gets unpleasant.
Autumn is very pleasant again. Winter can be rainy — the training still goes ahead, with rain gear. Bonus: groups are small, sometimes you almost have a private experience.
